This historic castle was extensively restored in 1968 when the present owners acquired the property from the Lipperheide heirs. It is exquisitely finished throughout with marvelous frescoes, paneling, wooden beam ceilings, antique tiles and stoves and has since become a protected historic monument.
The castle has approximately 730 m2 of living space and on the ground floor is the entrance hall along with a number of rooms and the reception and living rooms can be found on the first and second floors. There are five bedrooms and two bathrooms, the tower hosts the library and the observation room offering spectacular views over the Unterinntal and the neighboring fortresses of Matzen, Lichtwehr and Kropfsberg. The basement contains storage rooms, a wine cellar and the heating system.
The castle is surrounded by a well manicured park of 5,000 m2 and three fortresses and you will find many exotic trees, romantic statues, four ponds, Nymph and mineral spa. There are several terraces of 190 m2 in total plus a unique terrace situated in the wood.
The picturesque castle is situated between Kufstein and Innsbruck and the nearby Zillertal, one of the Tyrol's best skiing areas and Alpbachtal offer all leisure facilities for the Austrian Alps. The international airports at Munich and Salzburg are reached within an hour and Innsbruck and the fashionale Kitzbuhel are both 40 km away.
The History of the Castle
Franz Lipperheide, born in 1838 in Westphalia, was a well known publisher and came to Brixlegg in 1800 with his wife Frieda where they fell in love with the area and people. In 1893 he bought the property and commissioned the present castle to be built. He was a pioneer of his day and in 1891 became Baron Lipperheide. They were an extremely popular and wealthy couple with the Baron having an excellent collection of antique guns and bronze helmets and was famed as a cattleman. After Frieda died in 1896 he married again to Elisabouth Rouge and he died in 1906.
Prince Lowstein has lived in the castle and Hermann Goring wanted to own the property but was unsuccessful. During World War 11 it was a secret station and 16 heirs of the Baron fought for the property before it was sold to Josef Gschlosser in the sixties. During the last years the owners have used the castle as a gallery. |
